Our purpose
Spritzwondergadgt.sbs is an independent educational publication operated by Spritzwondergadgt Analytics Ltd. We explain the data systems behind early warnings for floods, fires and severe weather, with particular attention to the space between a forecast and a decision.
We write for residents, civic staff and technically curious readers. You do not need to build a model to ask whether its output is relevant, timely or trustworthy. You do need a clear account of its intended task, evidence and limits.
Our editorial approach
We use calm, practical explanations rather than the language of live alerts. We separate detection from prediction, broad-scale skill from local detail, and forecast accuracy from readiness. Where a term changes meaning between jurisdictions, we identify the relevant context rather than imply a universal rule.
Our four guides cite public agencies, technical standards and research papers. Primary documentation is preferred for descriptions of services; research papers are used for the scope and evaluation of particular methods. Links are starting points for further reading, not endorsements of every statement a linked organisation makes.
How to read our examples
Instrument renders are conceptual illustrations. Landscape photographs provide environmental context, not evidence of current conditions. We do not display live gauges, incident maps or numerical risk scores that could be mistaken for operational monitoring.
Research findings are specific to their datasets and tests. We avoid treating a benchmark result as proof of safety for an individual address. For protective decisions, consult the authorised service responsible for your location and follow current instructions.
Corrections and questions
If an explanation is unclear or a source no longer supports a statement, share the page address, the relevant sentence and a supporting reference where possible. Please avoid sending private incident details or personal information about other people.
Our contact tool prepares plain text locally. It does not submit messages or provide an emergency response channel.
